Many Congratulations to Galileo on 100 Group One Winners.Racing Legends.
I appreciate all these interesting uploads mate 👍 Coming from the Southern Hemisphere, many are new to me.
The arc win was more remarkable the hard season he had don’t believe he gets enough credit how great he was they never shut up about frankel this horse did over 1mile 1mile2 and 1mile4 simply the best
Yes he was an all time Great.Frankel too.
When Rip van Winkle only struggles into 4th in your Guineas and your trainer knows for a FACT 1m was strictly speaking short of his best distance … then you know you’ve got something special on your hands . I was convinced he’d be shown up in the Arc , boy was I wrong , superb horse and a superb sire too . I don’t rank him as high as you’d expect with his record , but like Llamtarra and other 3yo retirees , in my view you’re going into battle with one hand tied behind your back . The mighty Ribot ( born in Britain 👀 ) , Mill Reef , Enable , the incomparable Frankel .. all came back as 4yo to defeat the next seasons classic generation , and in my view that’s the ultimate determining factor in the who’s who in the Pantheon of the greats . 👍🏴
Yes you have a great point there Jay.Its more in fashion now to keep them in training.People keep going on about 3 year olds getting weight from the older horses but it’s a system that’s tried and tested and 100 pc fair. They improve a lot between 3 and 4.Superb Horse all the same.Yes Ribot was a Great Horse. Not much footage of him and what’s there is not very good.
@@HorseRacingLegends I would imagine that’s the case , it was the early 50’s after all and that’s Pathe newsreel times 😳 👍🏴
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Yes they were brilliant to be fair.
Best all time for me
Great Shout .
It’s TRIP-TIK .. not TRIP-TEACH.. annoying old fogey 🤦♂️ Sorry.. but O’Sullivan just gets RIGHT up my kilt 😆 Cracking performance by Reference Point but even better by Cauthen .. he really DID have a ⏰ in his head . Master of pace that guy 👌 👍🏴
Your Ruthless Jay.Straight to it lol.Yes Triptych was struggling to go the early pace I noticed.Pushing away after 2 Furlongs and Unite was going better funnily enough but She folded in the straight.Yes Steve was right up there with Lester.100 pc.
@@HorseRacingLegends 😃 I’m taking that as a compliment 🙏 👍🏴

Another fantastic video, I am really enjoying your channel, brings back a lot of memories!!
Glad you enjoy it Ronnie.
Hugh McIlvanney on Lester Piggott - "A volcano trapped inside an iceberg"
Hugh was World Class.
There’s an excellent series of ‘Racing Greats’ interviews by Rishi Persad and Steve Mellish on the Racing TV channel and I’d recommend the Mick Kinane video. His otherwise stony face lights up when talking about Sea The Stars and to emphasise how much the horse means to him, Kinane let on that he’d actually visited him at stud the day before as I recall. Not many jockeys would do that, some fifteen years after their last race. Alas, the subsequently short legged foal never made it to the racecourse… But I digress.
The perfect horse.
What a horse
Yep, Longboat trained by the great Major Dick Hern who trained some terrific horses like Brigadier Gerard, Highclere, Bustino, Relkino, Dunfirmline, Troy, Petoski, Sun Princess and - with Neil Graham - Nashwan
Yes some amazing names there Keith.
The security for an expensive jewel like Shergar at his stable was inexcusable
Yes totally unacceptable
Brilliant stuff,what a horse.
He was indeed.
Class horse we missed out on breeding
Yes that was a Tragedy.
Its hard to put into words, even after so many years, how disgustingly evil it was
@@KevinMunday-oh6xq Yes agreed.
Greatest of them all by a country mile
Without a shadow of a doubt.
Just wonderfull ..I didn’t think you could keep putting out content this good ,I was wrong what a fantastic channel
Me neither lol.Glad you enjoyed it Micky.
Betfair forum would be melting down at Peter mixing up Belmez and In The Wings for 2f
lol.Comes to us all.
I should also add that I just lurve the extended pre/post coverage too - ta 👌 👍🏴
Thanks Jay.Im The Guy with everything lol.
@@HorseRacingLegends then you De Man.. 😀 👍🏴
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Ha Ha.
Seen it many times but never fails to raise the blood pressure ! I swithered for an age on which Cecil inmate to back but eventually ignored my nagging worry about the ground for Old Vic and figured that as both Cecil and Cauthen thought he’d get away with it then surely I must take the hint , but it was close as Belmez was an improver … sadly , betting wise we three were wrong , but from a spectacle point of view it was right up there in stature and drama . I DO think the ground made a few lengths difference to Old Vic , just enough for Belmez to get past him but once he did Old Vic fought like a lion to get back up and lost NOTHING in defeat to his younger stable mate . Cracking post btw , cheers 🍻 👍🏴
Thank Jay yes I think Henry Cecil said he liked cut in the ground and he never got it.
A true legend, there will never be another istabraq, such a beautiful superstar... he will be sadly missed by everyone and everyone knew istabraq ❤
Lovely Words.
i backed tony bin to win the arc..........did it in a win win and double with an unplaced horse of john williams i think in the c\witch
Some going that was.Well done.
The 1988 Arc winner is 100/1
Yes how he won the Arc I will never know.
@@HorseRacingLegends It was a decent Arc as well
i backed tony bin in the arc......i did it win win and double with an unplaced horse from the day before and didnt follow up with another bet
assastis was great value i remember seeing 100/1
He had some record at Ascot and unbelievable went on to win there at 50/1.How was that even possible.?
@@HorseRacingLegends no idea he was great at Ascot and was owned before by Khaled Abdullah
@@BradyPires7 Yes unbelievable price.
was there for this race to see henry win trainers title and see old vic one of my favs and i loved belmez too. i did back OV didnt have a saver on bel which was stupid as was always going to be a 2 horse race before it started
in my views best KG line up ive seen best horse jockey and trainer to win it too😊. shame he had an abcess on his foot for the arc so couldnt show anything
Yes he was The Best Horse in that Race all day long.
Apart from Triptych and the winner a very average race I think but Steve and Reference Point were a brilliant combination.
@@gerrymcguire7382 Tony Bin went on to win The Arc.
The Tv racing was so much better then
Agreed.
The BBC then was the best ever for sport . Horse racing, football, boxing, cricket, Tennis etc such great commentators, and insight
Jimmy Lindley was great before the race. BBC gave uo racing, such a shame, Channel 4 was OK with Francome etc..but ITV's brief is to make it available for the mildly interested. They done a great job at Royal Ascot in that regard. I, as a racing pro coulldn't watch it, though.
@@wacmedia Yes.The General Public are not interested in Racing apart from The Grand National. It Will never change and TV is full of The Woke Snowflake Brigade.BBC and The People they had were World Class. They were mostly heard and not seen.
@@KevinMunday-oh6xq Yes different Class. All Great commentators in everything they covered.
Light Cavalry needed a pacemaker to sit in behind of. Like Dick Hurn did with Bustino. Makes me wonder sometimes, why so called professional connections, do such seemingly baffling things?
Maybe Henry didn’t have one he could have used.
@@HorseRacingLegends Henry, at the time, had loads of horses that could have run a tag team for Light Cavalry to sit behind of to get a slipstream. Seems odd to me, cycling teams do it all the time. People who don't cycle race, don't realise how much sitting in behind, helps the main player. Look at Mark Cavendish in cycling.
@@unionjakjakson It would have taken more than that to beat Shergar. My Son was a Semi Professional Cyclist by the way and has raced Mark Cavendish.I do know the benefits of Drafting. You can sit in the bunch in the TDF at 150 watts if you have the bottle to draft real close.
@@HorseRacingLegends Glad that you appreciate my point, through your own personal experiences. If you watch the fantastic program made about the " Race Of The Century " (which i am sure you will have done already), Joe Mercer is adamant that had the very decent mile and a quarter horse they had lined up, not gone lame before the race, then Bustino would have beat Grundy. Even Grundy's trainer, Peter Walwyn, concedes that " maybe he would". Enjoyed our banter, we are kindred spirits anyway.
@@unionjakjakson That’s a big maybe though and don’t forget Sagaro beat Bustino in France by outstaying him.Great to talk to you.
Was always an Old Vic fan but he needed that cut in the ground always wished he would have met Nashwan. These extra length meetings and races are great to watch. Thanks
Thank you so much.Yes the match was never really going to happen.
Hi, i do like your old school racing legends videos including extended coverage keep them up 👍

Not a bad field...
Yes unbelievable
I doubt today's winner will end up in any compilations. Terrible bunch. No wonder it's such a big field.
You never know.
Pat eddery was the king
Yes World Class.
Not only is it Earth Shattering that 1 horse won The Stewards Cup , The Portland AND the Ayr Gold cup at all , but to do it in the same season is just stupefying 😮 And then to go on and improve further to win Grp 1 races .. wow , just WOW !! Loved every second of this trip down memory lane , thank you so much sir , I’m very grateful 🙏 👍🏴
Glad you liked it Jay.Music at the end was brilliant.
@@HorseRacingLegends Twas indeed 👌 👍🏴
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Yes I noticed her race number kept getting lower from Goodwood to Ayr.Lol.
Schoolboy error letting Shergar get through on the rail, should have blocked that avenue off
He would have won anyway.
@@HorseRacingLegends Agreed, but don't make it easy, he was boxed in at one stage, make the jockey switch, Shergar could lose some balance and ground by doing so. On the whole I'm in complete agreement, he was a great horse, what happened to him was wrong.
@@chrishughes4521 Don’t forget Lester was beat on light cavalry and he had more than just an interest on Shergar .
In my lifetime there’s been 3 sporting icons, Muhammad Ali, Pele and Lester Piggott.
Great Shout John.
great stuff keep them coming legend
Thank you so much.
Ttt
??
ITV today just have a bunch of yes-men and yes-women who never disagree with each other because it might affect their mental wellbeing, who continue to say how wonderful they all are, theyve probably all been jabbed as well like sheep
The Snowflake Brigade.
ITV should look at this and learn how to cover racing.
Agreed.
@Kevin Unfortunately they will never cover racing like this again, too many egotistical presenters with too little knowledge and broadcasting companies trying to cram in as many races as possible.
@@Thomas-vg8ov Yes all full of their self importance.
I'm guessing this race was the Dante (Derby trial at York). I remember Leonardo da Vinci so well, and remember watching this race live on tv and being grnuinely shocked at Leonardo's demise. Looked to be a wonder horse early in his career, but perhaps he didnt beat a great deal in thise early races
Yes The Mecca Dante. He won The Wood Dutton on his debut then hacked up at Ascot.
@HorseRacingLegends yeah the wood Ditton is for unraced 3yo well bred colts. Infrequently you get a good winner of the wood Ditton. I seem to remember earlier I the 1970s a good miler called Owen Dudley who 'might' have won the wood ditton
@@keithf_ Yes I’m sure Geoff Lewis Rode him.Ive got an Owen Dudley Race I’m sure.
@@keithf_ Yes I’m sure Geoff Lewis Rode him.Ive got an Owen Dudley Race I’m positive
@@keithf_ Yeah Leonardo Da Vinci did look to be top class horse but the horses he was beating I don't think were a good as 1st thought but his Dante display OUTSTANDING!!
Pat rode more championship s and group winners
Yes Pat was an amazing Jockey John.
Brilliant channel mate thanks for uploading all these great memories i still follow racing but its not a patch on the good old days.
Glad you enjoyed it.Yes me too.
Wonderful horse. As long as she didn't pull his chances away on the way to the stalls, was like lightning once they opened. Like a comment below, an all time favourite. Great race clips. Thanks for compiling this.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Lake Coniston too, I lived near Epsom and knew a few lads from the Geoff Lewis yard - he was a machine on his day.
Lochsong was an all time favourite of mine, a marvelous mare who, if human, would be very much her own woman... Watching some of these races takes me back to (mostly!) happier days.
Glad you like The Video.
